§ Mr. Wadeasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many university teaching posts are at present unfilled; and how many university teachers left their posts during 1960–61.
§ Sir E. BoyleUniversities have no fixed establishment of teaching posts, but appoint such numbers of staff as their funds permit. I regret, therefore, that the information asked for is not available. I understand that a recent survey of eleven university institutions showed that, in June, 1961, 5.6 per cent. of existing posts were vacant.
