HC Deb 18 April 1962 vol 658 c89W
Sir J. Duncan

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he is yet in a position to make a statement about the accommodation on the Bridge Street site which might be available for the purposes of the House of Commons.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Yes. I think it would be convenient at this stage to seek advice on the allocation of some 40,000 sq. ft. on the Bridge Street site which might be available for permanent accommodation for House of Commons purposes. Accordingly, I have recommended to Mr. Speaker that he should set up anad hoc Committee of this House to consider this problem with the following terms of reference: To consider and recommend how best an area of approximately 40,000 square feet on the Bridge Street site might be used for permanent accommodation for the purposes of the House of Commons.

Mr. Speaker has agreed to this proposal, and the composition of the Committee will be discussed in the usual way and reported to the House.
