HC Deb 17 April 1962 vol 658 cc58-9W
99. Sir A. Hurd

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement on the recommendations he has received from the consulting engineers engaged to advise him on alternative routes through Berkshire and Wiltshire for the South Wales Motorway, M.4; when the detailed plan will be available to owners of land and others affected; and what opportunities they will have to make representations to him before he reaches a final decision.

Mr. Marples

The reports made by the consulting engineers on alternative routes for this section of the London to South Wales motorway are now being considered. I propose shortly to consult the local authorities concerned and the organisations representing agriculture about the proposed line. I will then publish my proposals as a draft Scheme, but it will be some time before this can be done. There will then be a period of three months in which objections and representations can be made.
