HC Deb 17 April 1962 vol 658 cc48-9W
92. Mr. du Cann

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of settlement stamp duty paid by unit trusts in each of the last 10 years, differentiating between the amounts paid on the creation of new units and the amounts paid in respect of the renewal of trust deeds or consolidation of expiring trusts.

Mr. Barber

The yield of settlement duty during each of the last ten years has been as follows:

£'000
1952–53 33
1953–54 43
1954–55 53
1955–56 80
1956–57 50
1957–58 47
1958–59 60
1959–60 141
1960–61 130
1961–62 150
(provisional)

The Inland Revenue statistics do not distinguish between duty paid by unit trusts and duty paid on ordinary settlements, but such information as there is suggests that the amount paid on ordinary settlements in recent years has been of the order of £30,000 to £50,000 a year.
