HC Deb 17 April 1962 vol 658 cc38-9W
76. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what has been the response of local authorities to Circular No. 6/62 of 8th February, 1962, on the need for a survey of the extent of the problem of gypsies and other travellers and the need for the provision of proper sites; and what proposals he has to ensure that the present unsatisfactory conditions are dealt with before next winter.

Mr. Rippon

We will not be able to judge the effect of the circular until the authorities concerned have informed us of the result of their surveys and of the steps they propose to take. This may take a little time. We hope that action on the lines suggested in the circular will be taken, where the need arises, before next winter.
