HC Deb 17 April 1962 vol 658 cc59-60W
Mr. Hornby

asked the Minister of Transport what estimates he has received of the probable increase in population in the county of Kent during the next ten years; and what discussions he has held with the British Transport Commission concerning the need for major capital development arising out of those population trends.

Mr. Marples

I am aware of course of the problem which my hon. Friend has in mind, but I have seen no recent estimates of probable increase in population specifically for Kent. I am in touch with the British Transport Commission about the effect of the expected increase in population in south-east England as a whole, but our joint consideration has not yet reached the stage at which discussion of possible further capital expenditure would be appropriate.
