§ 78. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs on what date he received proposals from the New-castle-under-Lyme Rural District Council for the erection of old people's bungalows in Audley and houses in Halmerend; for how long these proposals have been under consideration in his Department; and to what extent he has now indicated his consent.
Dr. HillTenders for both schemes were received on 30th January. The Audley scheme was approved on 5th April, the Halmerend scheme on 13th April. Approval took longer than usual because the council had never notified the Department what they wanted to build this year; nor did they explain when they submitted their schemes that the Halmerend houses were intended to replace slums.
