HC Deb 16 April 1962 vol 658 c19W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what proposals have been made by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for independence; and what reply has been sent.

Mr. Maudling

The Trinidad Government have requested independence as early as possible in 1962. I have replied proposing that as soon as convenient an independence conference should be held at which I would expect the Trinidad and Tobago delegation to include representatives of the political parties represented in the legislature.
