HC Deb 16 April 1962 vol 658 cc1-2W
5. Mrs. Butler

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what consideration he has given to the difficulties with regard to obtaining National Assistance experienced by applicants who have continued in insurable employment after reaching the age of 65 years.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

If the hon. Member will let me know what are the difficulties she has in mind, I will gladly consider them.

6. Mr. Farr

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether he will raise the upper limit of capital as defined in the National Assistance Act, 1948, and as amended by the National Assistance (Disregard of Assets) Order, 1959, from £600 to £1,000.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

No. This figure, which is of course additional to the one for War Savings, was increased by 50 per cent. in 1959, and I do not think that a further increase, which would be of benefit only to people with substantial savings, has any particular claim to priority.
