HC Deb 11 April 1962 vol 657 cc146-7W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will reduce substantially the rental charges upon persons in the Western Isles constituency. who, at their own expense, have built telephone kiosks, open to the public though privately rented, where the Post Office has refused to provide its own kiosks and telephone apparatus.

Mr. Bevins

I am grateful to those who have made these arrangements, and to those people who have agreed to make telephones in their homes available for use by others in the community. But I am afraid I could not justify the introduction of concessionary rentals, with the consequent addition to the heavy loss already incurred on public telephone kiosks in the Western Isles.
