Mr. Gower

asked the Postmaster-General how many individual domestic telephone subscribers there were at the latest convenient date in England, Scotland and Wales, respectively; and how these figures compare with the figures for 1952.

Mr. Bevins

On the 1st January, 1962, there were 2,640,000 domestic telephone subscribers in England, 294,000 in Scotland and 102,000 in Wales, increases on the figures for 1952 of 74 per cent., 81 per cent and 110 per cent., respectively.
