Mr. D. Price

asked the Minister of Power how many miles of cross-country pipe-line, as defined in the Pipe-Lines Bill (Lords) existed in the United Kingdom on 1st March, 1962; and how the mileage was divided between pipelines owned by public utilities and Government Departments on the one hand and private concerns on the other.

Mr. Wood

Of the existing cross-country lines to which the Bill applies, about 1,200 miles are owned by the Government and about 220 miles by the oil companies.
