HC Deb 24 October 1961 vol 646 cc86-7W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give the number of officers and other ranks, by sexes, who were serving in the Territorial Army on 1st January, 1961, and the same figures for the last convenient date; how many new recruits have been enrolled during the current year; and how many officers and other ranks have resigned or been declared redundant since January, 1961.

Mr. Profumo

The following is the information:

The above figures do not include the part-time National Service element of the Territorial Army.

During the same period, 1,259 male officers and 47 female officers transferred from the Active List to the Reserve, but the majority of these transfers were for reasons unconnected with the re-organisation of the Territorial Army.

Also during the same period, 3,473 volunteer other ranks left the Territorial Army at their own request and 8,598 left because their services were no longer required. Most of those in the second category left for reasons connected with the re-organisation.
