HC Deb 23 October 1961 vol 646 c34W
Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

asked the President of the Board of Trade what directions he has given to the Comptroller-General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks to avoid in future the confusion which arose recently over the trade names of two distinct products.

Mr. Erroll

The Comptroller-General has been directed:

  1. (a) to extend his cross-searching in the manner indicated in the reply which was given to the hon. Member on 3rd August last; and
  2. (b) if this cross-search discloses that the mark applied for would be likely, because of its resemblance to an existing mark, to confuse the public as to the suitability of any goods for internal consumption, to draw the attention of the applicant to the danger which might arise
