HC Deb 29 November 1961 vol 650 cc51-2W
58. Mr. Kimball

asked the Lord Privy Seal what is the total cost to date of the United Kingdom's contribution to the United Nation's operations in the Congo; and how many countries who are members of the United Nations have failed to make any contribution.

Mr. Heath

The total cost of Her Majesty's Government's contribution to the United Nations operation in the Congo to date is £4,284,000. We have also made voluntary contributions to the Fund for the Congo and for famine relief amounting to £1,129,000.

On 31st October, eighty-seven countries were in default of their assessed contributions to the operation in the Congo. Details of defaulters are given in United Nations document ST/ADM/ SER.B/151, which is available in the Library of the House.

81. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether United Nations forces have now disarmed the Congolese troops who mutinied, robbed, raped and committed other outrages at Bendera, Albertville and elsewhere.

Mr. Heath

So far as I am aware the only occasion on which the United Nations forces are recently reported to have disarmed Congolese troops was at Albertville.
