§ 46. Mr. Awberyasked the President of the Board of Trade, if he is aware of methods of canvassing for the sale of hire-purchase goods, which result in documents being signed for goods not required, on which the conditions of payment are often impracticable; and if he 162W will introduce legislation to make it a condition of hire-purchase contracts that they can be revoked within four days and that, in default of payment, the recovery of the goods and the loss of instalments paid will be the sole penalty.
§ Mr. ErrollI am aware of the feeling that some individuals are tempted into over-committing themselves in hire-purchase agreements. I understand that the Committee on Consumer Protection has announced its intention of reviewing certain aspects of trading by bire purchase. When I have the Committee's report I shall be in a better position to see what, if any, action is needed.
