HC Deb 22 November 1961 vol 649 c150W
115. Mr. Leavey

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will ask the Federal Government of the West Indies to instruct the Commission in the United Kingdom for the West Indies, British Guiana and British Honduras to reply to correspondence from the hon. Member for Heywood and Royton dated 16th October; and whether he will review all the existing arrangements covering the issue of passports to juveniles in these territories whose parents, now resident in the United Kingdom, have made application for their children to join them here.

Mr. Maudling

I understand that the hon. Member has received from the Commission in the United Kingdom for the West Indies, British Guiana and the British Honduras, a reply to his letter of the 16th October, giving the information for which he had asked.

The arrangements in certain West Indian territories for issuing passports to young people under 18 whose parents are in the United Kingdom and wish their children to join them, are designed to ensure that the young people do not arrive here without proper arrangements for their care and protection. It is hoped that similar arrangements will in time be adopted by all West Indian territories.
