HC Deb 22 November 1961 vol 649 cc138-9W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Minister of Transport (1) what consideration he has given, in view of the possibility of the United Kingdom entering the Common Market, to the practicability of erecting a dam across the Channel which would serve both as a means of transport and as a source of electrical power;

(2) if he will state the estimated cost of building a dam across the Channel which would serve both as a means of transport and as a source of electrical power.

Mr. Marples

No proposals for a dam across the Channel have been made to me or to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Power, and I have not the information on which to base an estimate of the cost of such a project.
