§ Mr. ProfumoI have received no complaints. It is generally recognised that these old barracks are not up to modern standards. Work on their replacement is due to begin next year. I understand that there has been a general shortage of fresh water in Gibraltar, but that the supply has now been restored. Every man now has a locker to himself.
§ Mr. Wilkinsasked the Secretary of State for War how many bug-infested mattresses provided for the use of the men of the 1st Battalion of the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry garrison, Gibraltar, have had to be destroyed.
§ Mr. ProfumoNone; some had to be cleaned. The unit has now been issued with new foam mattresses.
