§ 5. Mr. Zilliacusasked the Minister of Defence whether he will give an assurance that British forces in Western Germany or in Western Berlin will in no circumstances be employed to intervene in case of internal subversion or to interfere in any other way in German internal affairs.
§ Mr. WatkinsonBritish forces are stationed in the Federal Republic of Germany in accordance with our obligations under the Brussels Treaty and to carry out the defensive measures assigned to them under the North Atlantic Treaty. British forces in West Berlin are stationed there to maintain the rights and responsibilities of Her Majesty's Government in Berlin in particular their responsibility for the security and status of the city.
