asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (1) What is the total value of claims submitted to the Foreign Compensation Commission:
    1. (a) by corporations and associations listed in paragraph 1 of Annex E of the Anglo-Egyptian Financial Agreement, 1959;
    2. (b) by owners of land in paragraph 2 of Annex E of the said Agreement;
  2. (2) What is the total value of the claims in respect of which interim payments amounting to £6,127,816 8s. have been paid up to May 4.

(1) (a) The total value of the claims submitted to the Foreign Compensation Commission up to May 25, 1961, by corporations and associations listed in para- graph 1 of Annex E of the Anglo-Egyptian Financial Agreement was £E24,784,213.

(b) Claims by owners of land in paragraph 2 of Annex E up to that date totalled £E10,405,980.

In addition, claims totalling £E30,662,093 have been received from individuals, companies and associations who held shares in Egyptian companies listed in paragraph 1 of Annex E, making a total claimed value in respect of "Egyptianisation" claims of £E65,852,286. These are the figures claimed, but the claims have not all been assessed or investigated by the Foreign Compensation Commission.

In answer to the second part of the question, the total assessed value of the claims was £27,184,397. On this figure the interim payments, up to May 4, at the various percentage rates set out in the Interim Distribution Order in Council, amounted to £6,127,816 8s.
