77. Mr. Abse

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the last edition of Rules and Standing Orders for the Government of Prisons was published; and when a new edition, including all amendments made since the last edition, will be published.

The Prison Rules were made in 1949 and amended in 1952 and 1956; and it is hoped to consolidate them before the end of the year.

The Standing Orders issued in 1933 have been extensively amended from time to time and are being gradually replaced. The work will be completed as soon as possible.
