HC Deb 04 May 1961 vol 639 c122W
49. Mr. de Freitas

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food approximately how much additional cost he estimates the dock strike has caused the consumer of imported food.

Mr. Vane

I am sure the House will be glad that the strike is now over. The only price increases directly due to the dock strike have occurred among certain types of fruit and vegetables such as Canary tomatoes. There is also a tendency for some beef prices to rise slightly. The total effect of these price variations cannot be calculated but it cannot be large.
