§ Mr. Marshallasked the Minister of Transport whether he has yet reached a decision on the proposal to increase the maximum permitted size of buses in this country.
§ Mr. MarplesYes. New Regulations increasing the permitted maximum length and width of public service vehicles to 36 ft. and 8ft. 2½ ins, as laid down in the 1949 United Nations Convention on Road Traffic will be laid before Parliament shortly. The Traffic Commissioners will have power to limit the use of the larger buses for regular services on particular routes. Further, if experience shows that the presence of 113W contract and foreign coaches of this size in central London causes great traffic difficulty, it may prove necessary to place restrictions on them in that area; none will, however, be introduced at present.
