HC Deb 02 May 1961 vol 639 c98W
60. Mr. Strauss

asked the Minister of Transport what are the results of his experiments to prevent accidents to children arriving at and leaving school; and whether he now considers the application of waiting restrictions outside certain school entrances is desirable.

Mr. Marples

The experiment which started last June was not conclusive but it indicated that the "School Entrance" carriageway marking was partially successful in discouraging drivers from parking near school gates.

On the advice of the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee, an extension of the experiment, with a revised marking, started on 13th March.

I shall await the advice of the Committee on the results of the extended experiment before deciding on the best method of dealing with the general problem.
