HC Deb 02 May 1961 vol 639 c95W
59. Dr. Dickson Mabon

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the latest estimates of the shortage of geriatric beds in each of the hospital regions.

Mr. Maclay

There is no generally accepted scale on which geriatric beds should be provided in the hospital service. I am aware, however, there is a need for considerable additional accommodation in four of the five regions. Three hundred additional beds were provided in 1960 and I know that the regional hospital boards have this problem very much in mind.
