HC Deb 30 March 1961 vol 637 c151W
Mr. David James

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, of those who have been released during the last ten years from sentences of life imprisonment, how many were released before serving 10 years, 20 years, and 30 years of their sentence, respectively; and how many people are still serving sentences imposed more than 30 years ago.

Mr. R. A. Butler

One hundred and six persons serving sentences of life imprisonment were released on licence during the period of ten years from 1951 to 1960. Eighty-eight of these had been detained for periods of less than ten years, 17 for periods of ten years or more but less than 20 years, and one for a period of 20 years. There are no persons still serving sentences of life imprisonment imposed more than 30 years ago.
