asked the Minister of Transport (1) if he will give the number of deaths caused by road accidents for each year since 1947 in England and Wales;

(2) if he will give the number of road accidents in England and Wales for each year since 1947.

The number of deaths caused by road accidents in England and Wales for each year since 1947 is shown in the table below.

I regret that figures showing the number of road accidents in England and Wales are not available. Statistics of road accidents involving death or injury in Great Britain as a whole are available from 1949 onwards and there is information about the number of casualties in road accidents in England and Wales for each year since 1947. These are given in the table.
