HC Deb 21 March 1961 vol 637 c38W
Sir A. Hurd

asked the Minister of Education how much Argentine beef was purchased for school meals in State schools last year; and what was the estimated saving in cost compared with the purchase of home-produced meat.

Mr. K. Thompson

I regret that this information is not available. Local education authorities are responsible for running the meals service and my Department does not give advice about the proportion of imported meat which should be purchased. It is unlikely that the records kept by local education authorities would specify how much was from the Argentine.
