HC Deb 15 March 1961 vol 636 cc124-5W
Mr. P. Noel-Baker

asked the Lord Privy Seal what proposals Her Majesty's Government intend to lay before the General Assembly of the United Nations for the resumption of negotiations for a treaty of general disarmament under inspection and control.

Mr. Heath

As the right hon. Gentle-man is aware, there are already several resolutions before the General Assembly, including two sponsored by Her Majesty's Government, on principles of disarmament and proposals for expert discussions. The Assembly is now considering how to deal with these resolutions and with the question of further substantive discussion of disarmament. This, I hope, will lead to a satisfactory basis for negotiation for which detailed plans might then be put forward.
