§ 81. Mrs. Whiteasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what additional grants are to be made available for extensions to the National Library of Wales, the National Museum of Wales and the Welsh Folk Museum.
§ Mr. BrookeI am glad to be able to announce that the Government have decided to make an Exchequer contribution of the order of 90 per cent. of the approved cost of the two Welsh building projects recommended by the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries as deserving priority. These are the West Wing of the National Museum at Cardiff, estimated to cost £350,000, and the completion of the first bookstack at the National Library at Aberystwyth, estimated to cost £200,000. Sums have been included in the grants in aid of the Museum and the Library in 1961–62 to enable a start to be made on these projects during the year.
The Commission did not attach as high a priority to the extension of the Welsh Folk Museum, and thus the Government feel it right to put the other two projects first.
