HC Deb 02 March 1961 vol 635 cc141-2W
49. Mr. Woodnutt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that, owing to the prompt action of all concerned, including his prison officers, all but one of the eight convicts who escaped from Parkhurst Prison, Isle of Wight, on 22nd February, have been recaptured; and whether he will investigate the circumstances of this escape and make a report to the House.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Yes. The speed and efficiency with which these prisoners were recaptured is much to the credit of the staff of Parkhurst Prison and of the local police.

The circumstances of this escape have already been the subject of inquiry and the prisoners concerned are to be dealt with on disciplinary charges by the Board of Visitors.
