HC Deb 21 June 1961 vol 642 c132W
50. Sir H. Kerr

asked the Minister of Transport what stage has been reached in considering proposals for the construction of a fresh bridge over the Cam at Cambridge.

Mr. Hay

The approved development plan provides for a new road from A.10 to A.45 and a new bridge over the river at Walnut Tree Avenue.

In view of the increasing traffic in Cambridge we have decided that the necessary Orders under Sections 7 and 20 of the Highways Act should be prepared as soon as possible.

The city council is being invited to prepare the Orders relating to the road. We propose, with the council's agreement, to invite consulting engineers and a consulting architect to prepare those for the bridge.
