HC Deb 21 June 1961 vol 642 c145W
Mr. Darling

asked the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food in how many cases relating to the labelling and advertising of foodstuffs proceedings have been taken under Section 6 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955; and what were the main offences so dealt with.

Mr. Soames

Since the Food and Drugs Act, 1955, came into operation, proceedings relating to foodstuffs under Section 6 of the Act have been begun in 246 cases. Of these, 48 were withdrawn for various reasons. The prosecutions concerned a variety of foodstuffs and were related to misleading labels or advertisements.
