HC Deb 21 June 1961 vol 642 c138W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware that it is possible to overcome the intensity of illumination of flashing direction indicators by installing a resistor in the circuit which reduces their brilliance when the sidelights are on; and if he will consider making regulations to deal with this matter in the interests of road safety.

Mr. Marples

I am aware that circuits have been developed to reduce the intensity of rear direction indicators when vehicle sidelights are switched on. International discussions are in progress to determine a suitable and practicable range of intensities for such signals for day and night use. When these are completed, we will consider what action is required to implement any agreed international standard.
