§ 72. Mr. Hunterasked the Minister of Labour what was the number of unemployed over 50 years of age registered at the employment exchanges at the latest convenient date; and what percentage this forms of the total number of unemployed.
§ Mr. HareAn age analysis of wholly unemployed persons registered at employment exchanges is made in June and December each year. On 12th December last, the number of wholly unemployed aged 50 and over was 111,743. This represented 35.3 per cent. of the total number wholly unemployed at that date. The figures for the June count will be available by the end of the month, and I will send them to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
