HC Deb 24 July 1961 vol 645 c16W
Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Education what were the pupil-teacher ratios for the age-groups 5–10, 12–15 and 16–19 years, in maintained and independent schools, respectively, at the latest available date.

Sir D. Eccles

The pupil-teacher ratios in January, 1960, in maintained schools were 29.2 for juniors and 20.8 for seniors. The estimated figures for independent schools were 14.2 and 14 respectively. Separate figures for the age groups 12–15 and 16–19 are not available, because the division of secondary school teachers' time between different age-groups of children is not known.
