HC Deb 24 July 1961 vol 645 c11W
70. Commander Pursey

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will state the reasons why an amber flood warning was issued for the East Coast on Tuesday 4th July, the tide for which the warning was intended, the coast points intended as limits for the warning, and the reasons why the warning was passed to Hull where it became a false alarm.

Mr. Vane

The offical flood warning system does not operate during the summer months but the officer on duty used his discretion in issuing a warning on 4th July for the area East Norfolk to Thanet, because indications were that danger levels might be reached. The warning was related to predicted high water at Lowestoft, 1.34 p.m. and Harwich 3.59 p.m. No warning was issued for the division covering Hull.
