HC Deb 24 July 1961 vol 645 cc7-8W
61. Mr. Awbery

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether, in calculating the British contribution to the United Nations High Commissioner's needs for the Algerian refugees in Morocco and Tunisia, he has taken into consideration the contributions of other member States made in kind as well as those made in cash; and if Her Majesty's Government will promise an amount that shall be a mini- mum in addition to the reservation of 10 per cent. as a reasonable sum.

Mr. P. Thomas

No; the announcement of Her Majesty's Government's response to the appeal of the High Commissioner was made after the latter had reported that requirements in kind for 1961 were expected to be fully met. As Her Majesty's Government has offered to contribute 10 per cent. of the total cash donations by the other member Governments of the High Commissioner's Executive Committee, I do not think it necessary to specify a minimum sum in addition.
