§ 61. Sir S. Summersasked the Minister of Labour what conclusions he has reached as a result of his study of the present system of trade union elections.
§ Mr. HareI have written to the General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress, which I know is giving serious consideration to this problem. My own view is that if the unions can take effective action to prevent breaches of their election rules, this would be the most satisfactory solution. If, however, there are difficulties which make this impracticable, I would propose to consider with the T.U.C. ways and means by which the Government could help.
