HL Deb 04 July 1961 vol 232 cc1357-8WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government

If they will give the percentage value of all imports duty free to total value of annual imports into the following countries:

  • United Kingdom,
  • United States of America,
  • France,
  • Germany,
  • Italy,
  • Holland,
  • Belgium.

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORT-FOLIO (THE EARL OF DUNDEE)

The proportion of the value of total imports which entered the United Kingdom free of duty in 1959 is estimated to have been between 55 and 60 per cent. In the same year the proportion of imports into the United States which entered duty free was 39 per cent. (as shown in the Statistical Abstract of the U.S.A. for 1960). I am not aware of any similar information for France, Germany, Italy, Holland or Belgium.

House adjourned at four minutes past eight o'clock.
