88. Mr. Slaterasked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he intends taking to attract new industry into the Sedgefield rural district in view of the redundancies taking place in the mining areas.
§ Mr. ErrollMy right hon. Friend is aware of the need for more industrial development both in Sedgefield itself and in the development districts which border on it. We shall do all we can to encourage suitable firms to go to the area.
89. Mr. Slaterasked the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been drawn to the site now vacant of the army camp at Sedgefield; and if he will enter into consultations with the 110W Secretary of State for War with the object of establishing new forms of industry upon this site.
§ Mr. ErrollThe Board of Trade is aware of this site, but my right hon. Friend understands that the interests of the former owners have first to be determined. If the site becomes available for industrial use, we shall certainly be prepared to bring it to the notice of suitable firms.
