asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the loss of revenue if the figure of £3,000, above which Estate Duty is payable, were to be raised to £4,000 and to £5,000, respectively.

Sir E. Boyle:

About £½ million and £1½million respectively if the rates above were unchanged, but if they were tapered these costs would be doubled or more than doubled, the precise figures depending on the new scale of rates.
