Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many employers in Wales have made applications to contract out of the graduated pensions scheme; and how many have been allowed to date, with the number of insured persons involved.

I regret that separate figures for Wales are not available.

Mr. Houghton

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many public service employees, including local government officers, teachers, police and fire service, have been contracted out of the graduated scheme; and what proportion this is of the total number contracted out.

By the 24th February, 3,041,372 employees had been contracted out. Of these 1,417,858 were public service employees.
