HC Deb 23 February 1961 vol 635 cc75-6W
Mr. Tiley

asked the Lord Privy Seal what action is being taken by Her Majesty's Government to assist the Indonesian authorities in repairing damage caused by recent severe floods.

Mr. Heath

Her Majesty's Government have authorised Her Majesty's Ambassador at Djakarta to offer the sum of £2,000, subject to Parliamentary approval, as a contribution to relief work following the great damage caused by recent floods, typhoons and landslides. Many lives have been lost, hundreds of thousands of people have been rendered homeless and large areas of agricultural land have been devastated. The Ambassador will discuss the best way of using this sum with the Indo- nesian authorities. Parliament will be asked to approve this expenditure in due course by means of a Supplementary Estimate.
