asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that none of the new tonnage ordered by Norwegian ship owners during the last few months has gone to British shipyards but has all been allocated to other yards in European countries; and whether he will cause an inquiry to 'be made as to why British shipyards are losing orders of this kind.

I am aware of the developments to which the hon. Member refers. The competitive position of the shipbuilding industry in this country is one of the matters under consideration by the Sub-Committee of the Shipbuilding Advisory Committee which is now preparing a report.
