HC Deb 20 February 1961 vol 635 c8W
58. Mr. Wyatt

asked the Minister of Aviation whether he will make a statement on the Government's policy with regard to helicopters for civil aviation.

Mr. Rippon

My right hon. Friend is considering an arrangement for assisting in the proving of a helicopter based on the Belvedere which would be suitable for city centre to city centre passenger services. Such a helicopter would be suitable for services to and from London. This might be the first step towards the introduction of regular helicopter passenger services in this country. The evolution of an economic passenger helicopter is not easy and it would be some time before such services could pay their way.
