§ Sir D. Campbellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was done with the arms and ammunition handed to the Royal Irish Constabulary, to the owners of which nearly £14,000 was paid in compensation between 1923 and 1929.
§ Mr. R. A. Butler:Surrendered arms and ammunition were at first stored at the Military Depot at Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland, at Woolwich Arsenal, and in Dublin. From mid-1923 they were returned to their owners where possible. The remaining arms held by the United Kingdom Government were transferred in 1927 to the custody of the Governments of Northern Ireland and of the Irish Republic, apart from any that may have been lost, and from a small number at Woolwich which were destroyed as worthless and unserviceable.
