asked the Minister of Education how many schools in the West Riding of Yorkshire have been permanently closed since 1951.

Sir D. Eccles:

55 schools maintained by the West Riding local education authority have closed since 1st January, 1951.

92. Sir L. Ropner

asked the Minister of Education how many new schools have been completed in the West Riding of Yorkshire since 1951; and how many schools have been modernised during the same period.

Sir D. Eccles:

Since 1st January, 1951, 81 new primary and 33 new secondary schools have been completed. In the same period 25 primary and 15 secondary schools have been remodelled to the standards required by the Ministry's regulations, and a large number of other schools have been substantially improved.
