104. Mr. Nabarro

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what aggregate diminution of Purchase Tax revenue he estimates will result from the fact that there are almost 200,000 unsold motor cars normally purchase-taxed at 50 per cent., and almost 800,000 unsold television sets normally purchase-taxed also at 50 per cent., in the current financial year 1960–61.

Mr. Barber:

I regret that it is not possible to make any estimate of this sort which would be realistic.
